Dear comrade delegates,
Please allow me, in the name of the Romanian Communist Party, to convey to you warm comradely greetings, and, together with this message, our friendship and militant solidarity with all Communist Parties taking part in this conference in Athens.
Loyal to socialist ideals, the Romanian Communist Party fights resolutely against capitalism, against the regime of sad memory which persistently exploits the Romanian people, who contributed with great sacrifices to the major transformations and achievements in the glorious years of socialism that was built successfully in Romania.
According to the Romanian Communist Party’s political view of the events of December 1989, it is clear that these events were exclusively due to Mikhail Gorbachev, whom we accuse of high treason, since he personally initiated the ideas of perestroika, backed by substantial aid from US imperialism and its allies, which brought about the disintegration of the Soviet Union and the other socialist countries.
The RCP believes that the Conference must be informed about the phenomena and serious incidents on a national level which were organised and directed by revanchist and chauvinist circles and by the foreign information services headed by the CIA, with the clear purpose of creating disorder, of destabilising the situation in Romania, in order to abolish the independence and national integrity of Romania. It is known that reactionary circles in Budapest have also made statements to this effect.
Right after the meeting in Malta, US president George Bush declared that he had discussed the problems of Romania with Gorbachev. All these diversions were directed to those states that were defending their independence, integrity and sovereignty and who did not want to surrender to imperialist reactionary circles, to those who wanted to compromise their country’s independence and territorial integrity.
The December 1989 coup which was organised and led by the National Salvation Front – the present-day Party of Social Democracy of Romania (RDSR) – caused the working class to be removed from the leadership of the country, thus betraying the interests of the Romanian people. This was due to subversion and conspiracy by a group of political adventurers, sick for power, who destroyed the national economy and continued the disastrous work of these traitors, who were highly reactionary elements obedient to their masters, i.e. US imperialists and their allies. After the coup in 1989, the RCD immediately proceeded to reorganise its party organisations on a national level, calling to it all patriotic forces, revolutionary forces, workers, farmers and intellectuals, people of good faith, and all those who did not betray the ideals of socialism and who contributed to the well-being and happiness of the entire Romanian people.
The Romanian Communist Party is the continuation of the communist, workers’ and revolutionary movement, it is the continuation of the internationalist traditions of the victorious ideas of Marxism-Leninism; it acts with consistency to develop relations of friendship with the communist and workers’ parties, and with all the revolutionary forces of the world.
Dear comrade delegates,
The RCP declared itself decisively against the old practices of coolness and isolation in relations between the communist and workers’ parties and in favour of developing co-operation and solidarity against opportunism, revisionism and anti-Leninism.
Our Party acts with the same decisiveness in strengthening the co-operation with the communist workers’ parties and progressive parties all over the world.
The situation is difficult and complex; changes have taken place in the world as regards the correlation of forces on an international level at a time when US imperialism and its allies are stirring up new hotspots of conflict in the world, changing governments, supporting coups d’etat by right-wing forces, interfering in the internal affairs of states that want national independence and national sovereignty, such as the Republic of Serbia – where the US is contributing to destabilising the political climate – and the Republic of Cuba through the terrible embargo which has been forcibly imposed by the US government for over 35 years, and which constitutes true genocide as it condemns the Cuban people to starvation for having chosen the bright path of liberation and dignity and a society of social justice.
The puppet government of South Korea, known to be protected by the US military bases, creates new diversions in obvious violation of the principles of the armistice signed at Panmunjom, and is ready at any moment to put into action a new military offensive against the People’s Democratic Republic of Korea.
The capitalist government of Romania increasingly insists that Romania should join Euroatlantic structures and NATO, so that US military bases may be established on the territory of Romania and the former socialist countries, thus transforming these countries into colonies so that their resources may be plundered and their peoples who, until up to now were free and independent, may be cruelly exploited. The RCP has never agreed and will never agree to establish NATO military bases or deploy US troops on Romanian soil, because they would represent a permanent threat to the independence and sovereignty of Romania. The RCP considers that today there is a practical need to strengthen further the co-operation between Communist Parties, based on the principles of Marxism-Leninism, scientific socialism, revolutionary authentication, the viewpoint of historic and dialectic materialism about the world and life. More than ever before, we must act decisively to overcome the phenomena of stagnancy and backsliding that exist in the action of some communist parties in both West and East, and encourage them to rejoin the revolutionary struggle so that we may bring back the socialist community to our countries.
Today, various dangerous, erroneous viewpoints and deviations have appeared, causing parties to split and including manifestations of a lack of confidence in the revolutionary forces, and in their ability to go forward without deviation on the road to socialism and communism. Thus the RCP emphasises:
The need for meetings and the exchange of
experience among communist and workers’ parties all over the world, as happened at the
International Conference dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Great October Socialist
Revolution on 4-8 November 1997 in Leningrad and at the present Conference in Athens.
Even though the problems are very
serious, the RCP is convinced that the revolutionary communist international forces,
acting jointly with the maximum resoluteness can inspire positive changes in the current
of events, in the direction of rebuilding socialism in our countries in Eastern Europe.
Only socialism can give the prospect of a
world without exploiters and exploited, without oppressors and oppressed, and only
socialism represents the future of humanity.
Dear comrade delegates,
The RCP expresses its conviction regarding the good relations of co-operation and solidarity which are being established today between communist parties; we also express our absolute conviction that these relations will develop even further in the future, in the best interests of all communist parties in the world, to strengthen co-operation between all democratic, progressive and anti-imperialist forces in the world, in the struggle for social progress and peace in the world.
In this belief, I would like to address our best wishes for the total success of the proceedings of this Conference being organised by the CPG in Athens.
Long live the unity of communist parties
all over the world.
Long live the glorious Communist Party of
Greece headed by its General
Secretary, comrade Aleka Paparigha
Long live the struggle of the workers and
the people of the whole world
against capitalism and imperialism and for socialism.
